The fourth graders at Lothrop Magnet Center run a comprehensive school-wide recycling program that is making an impact on the hearts and minds of students and the environment.
Science Specialist Pamela Galus was always looking for ways to teach her science students about cause and effect, and about environmental impact on living things. Discussions led her students to ask the inevitable question: “why don’t we recycle here?”
Ms. Galus worked with fourth graders to create and manage a school-wide recycling program. With support from her fellow teachers, the administration and the custodial staff, the Ms. Galus and her students are able to grow their commitment to environmental responsibility year over year. Now the fourth grade students at Lothrop Magnet Center are running a comprehensive school-wide recycling program that is making an impact on the hearts and minds of all students as well as the environment.
