I had Mr. Gaylor in the 80s and I still love the story he told about the telemarketer who called him up to sell vinyl siding to him. The salesman went through his whole pitch, and Mr. Gaylor listened. Excited that he hadn't hung up, the salesman asked if he could set up an in-home appointment, and Mr. Gaylor agreed. When the young man arrived, he seemed confused. He said to Mr. Gaylor, "I think I have the wrong house. I'm here to talk about vinyl siding, but you live in a brick house." Mr. Gaylor told us that the salesman didn't make a sale that day, but he learned the importance of finding out the needs of the customer first. Mr. Gaylor can find a teachable moment in just about everything!
