8th grade teachers with their 2nd grade students

In our small school of 120 students K-12, it is encouraged to provide opportunities for our older students to connect with elementary students. In my Intro to Spanish class with 8th Grade and 7th Grade, the students meet weekly with a buddy in 2nd grade to teach what they have learned so far in Spanish. Our tradition is an end of semester “fiesta”, either for Cinco de Mayo or Day of the Dead, where the junior high students invite their elementary partner to join them to eat chips and homemade salsa, dance to the Mexican Hat Dance, make piñatas, and learn the history of the holiday. All those involved look forward to the event every year!
