“I’d like every student to be in some kind of program after school is out in May,” Christopher Wiley, guidance counselor at Omaha North High School shares. ​“So, when they go back in the classroom, they can go back with a little more motivation to finish and be successful.”

As someone in the ​“decision-making business,” Wiley believes it’s imperative for students to have an array of experiences in order to prepare them for decisions that impact their future – from selecting next semester’s courses to selecting a college major. For many of his students, he encourages the Urban League of Nebraska Girls STEAM Academy.

With help from community partners in the STEAM industries, this summer program has made a big impact helping high school women of color believe that they can be anything they want to be by exposing them to a variety of careers in science, technology, engineering, agriculture, and math.
