For the first time this summer, we started teaching STEM camps for PrairieSTEM, a non-profit focused on STEM education that offers camps and programs for students K-12 online and in-person. Last year, several Westside Elementary schools distributed STEM kits developed by PrairieSTEM that helped carry us through a year where many of our in-person programs weren't allowed to happen due to COVID.
This year, though we hit a few bumps along the way during the first week, by week two, you would have thought we had been teaching these camps for years. Students learned coding with micro:bits, robotics with LittleBits, and science, technology, engineering, art, and math with activities involving food! That's not the best part though - we had the support of Westside middle and high school student volunteers helping with each camp session. We would not have been as successful as we have been if it wasn't for these amazing students!
