I Love Public Schools I Love Public Schools

As one of ten elementary schools in Kearney, Nebraska, Northeast Elementary serves roughly 370 students. Our tradition started a few years ago as we began inviting our graduating senior alums back to Northeast for a Graduation Walk at the end of the year. While Pomp and Circumstance is playing over the intercom, our students line the hallways giving high-fives to our graduating seniors as they walk through the entire school. Everyone then gathers in the gym for an all-school assembly honoring the seniors. They introduce themselves and tell of their plans for after graduation, as well as share a special memory from their time at Northeast. Cheers and applause, smiles and laughter are in abundance.
Our students and staff love this, and our alums look forward to coming back to once again walk the halls, visit with previous teachers, and share memories of their elementary years. It is a great way to honor our alums while at the same time promoting school unity and pride.
