November 6 is Feel the Love Friday and we are honored to highlight the educators at Omaha North High Magnet School.
With the help of Dr. Nero, principal of the school, and the team at Omaha Public Schools, we surprised beloved history teacher, Meghan Witty.
Meghan is a Modern World History & Debate Teacher as well as the #AdultingClub Advisor. She loves how she can create lasting memories with her students every day.
I see my job as creating memories based around the curriculum so hopefully, they’ll remember something from high school history. When I started teaching my goal was “A memory a week”. How foolish. I’ve made lasting memories every day; how grateful I am for these kids.”
— Meghan Witty, Omaha North High
This year has been tough but Meghan finds solace in the fact that the students she teaches will leave her classroom being kind members of society.
From coming together to donate money to displaced classes in California due to wildfires to providing hot chocolate to Omaha North teachers during the pandemic, the students in Meghan Witty’s class are incredibly thoughtful.
Dr. Collette Nero (above) is the principal of Omaha North Magnet school and played a large role in helping us surprise our Feel the Love Friday Teacher this month.
She is currently in her first year as principal of this high school and what a year it has been already. She continues to work hard through this pandemic to ensure her staff and students feel safe.
How to celebrate Feel the Love Friday
On the first Friday of every month we ask educators, students, parents, and community members to wear their I Love Public Schools gear and share a memory or a story about their public school.
Each month we also highlight one school and surprise an exceptional educator from that school! Look for our posts throughout the day on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
Schools are adapting to the current issues the world is facing. One of these adaptations happens during every student’s favorite time of the school day: lunch and recess.
