This October, we celebrated Arts and Humanities Month by sharing the creative work students across the state have submitted to us. From original songs to paintings and drawings, here are some of our favorite submissions!

Two talented young girls sharing powerful stories through song. Their storytelling is unmatched and their message about empowering women deserves to be heard around the world! 

“The goal [of this project] was to show a struggle that was happening in the world. As a Hispanic, this project actually meant a lot to me. I made it to show the path that immigrants go through in search of what we call the dream. They don’t do it to harm anyone or anything, but to better their own lives.”

Shout out to Mrs. Stortenbecker at Gothenburg Public Schools for encouraging her students to submit the art they’ve been working on in class. You can tell from these drawings and photographs that these students are staying creative and enjoying every minute of it!

“I am very passionate about mental health awareness so I chose to create a print that was centered around depression and anxiety. The girl is sitting in front of a cracked brick wall and she is emotionally cracked as well. The girl is sitting in a ball, pulling her hair, expressing that she is at her limit. She feels broken. The bricks falling out of the wall express that everything around her is falling apart.”

“This Photo Illustration represents the stress that has been put on everyone during this whole Covid-19 fiasco.”

“My teacher showed us photos of silhouettes. I wanted to draw a windmill and fence and hay bale. First, I made the sunset sky with watercolors. Then, I used a sharpie to draw the ground, the fence, and the hay bale. The windmill was too hard to draw, so I put a boot on a fence post instead.”

“I worked with watercolors and pen to make a colorful and bright piece with simple lines. The painting represents my childhood memories. [This] is the neighborhood that I live in, but with bits and pieces changed to add more memories to the scene. ⁠

⁠Almost everything in this art piece has a story. From the swing set to the car, and airplane. The white figures are meant to represent different versions of me as I was growing up. This piece is nostalgic and is full of stories from my childhood.⁠”

“The first pencil drawing is of a lion resting by water and her reflection. I used colored pencils to contrast with the lion. I try to draw once or twice a day when I have time. I am planning to be an artist when I grow up.⁠
