Mr. Stevens always had a sense of community in his choir room – it's likely he regretted his decision to keep the "open door" policy for his office as it became a home and hub for students to gather and connect with him, nearly at all times before, during and after school.
When educators talk about building relationships, it's as if it's part of Stevens' DNA. Ask any show choir member or simply any student who took a choir class during their time at Millard South High School, it's likely his class – and time spent hanging out in his office – is one of the most memorable experiences. He cared about you and the music you created.
